Fence Post of Faith April 2012

Most of us receive our share of junk mail in the mail and on the internet as well. It is aggravating to find out mailboxes packed full of these worthless communications. The offers sometimes sound good; free gift, free vacations, exceptionally low interest rates, endless supplies of money, protection against tragedy, you name it. And you wonder how they can make such offers. What’s the catch? Usually, if you dig deep enough, you can find the reasons: hidden charges, some purchase that must be made, higher interest rate, must be present to win, etc. Something! That’s why we call it junk. Offers are made that seem too good to be true. Sometimes we make the statement, “if it sounds too good to be true, then it probably is too good to be true.

In sending Jesus, God made an offer that seems too good to be true, as well. But it’s not. No junk mail, here. God has offered us a hope for salvation though Christ Jesus. God has promised strength for our walk upon this earth. With God’s offer, when we dig deep, we see that there is nothing hidden. No fine print. God’s offer extends to each and every human being, without strings. We call the free gift, “grace.”

Have you experienced the gift of God’s grace in your life? I would guess that you have, perhaps even if you didn’t know it. God’s free gift of grace is there for all of us—all we have to do is receive it.
This is not to say that accepting God’s grace will  “Fix” all our problems, but God’s grace at work in our lives means that we can deal with our problems in new ways, finding comfort and strength to make it through and now that even when we fail, God is there to pick us up.

“…since all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God; [we] are now justified by his grace as a gift, though the redemption that is in Christ Jesus…(Romans 3:23-24).”
